The Chronicles of CONduit, the 18th annual science fiction and fantasy convention, will be May 23-25, 2008 at the Radisson Hotel, downtown Salt Lake City. Guests include: Michael A. Stackpole, author of The Age of Discovery series, the Realms of Chaos series and several “Star Wars” books. Theresa Mather, fantasy artist. Theresa does a lot of wonderful birthstone dragon paintings, among many others. Other guests include author L. E. Modesitt, Jr., poet Michael R. Collings and filk guest Kathy Mar. CONduit will also be featuring a four-hour writers workshop run by Robert J Defendi and Dan Willis. Bring five pages of a manuscript to workshop. Cost is only $20 and you don’t need to attend CONduit to attend the writing workshop. For an additional $10, Bob or Dan will personally critique up to 10 pages of a manuscript. Writers from all genres are welcome. CONduit will have panels, workshops and presentations on science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction and art. There will also be panels on crafts and costuming, a vendors’ room, art show and RPG room. The vendors’ room and art show are open to the general public. (No membership required.) On Saturday night, a masquerade contest will be held. Costumers from all over the state will compete for awards in costuming and performance. Attendance is $45 at the door for adults; lower rates are available for teens and youth. One-day rates are also available. For more information, go to conduit.sfcon.org.
