Legislative Leadership Award
Greg Hughes, District 51 Representative, Utah House of Representatives
Lifetime Leadership Award

In addition to the awards, poet, author, and lecturer David Whyte will be speaking. Whyte is known internationally for his eloquent and inspiring talks drawn from poetry and prose that introduce an insightful and enlightened approach to daily living. He has given lectured in front of a wide array of audiences from multi-national corporations, to national government agencies, to non-profit organizations. His speech, titled “Crossing the Unknown Sea: Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity,” will touch on how work is of enormous consequence to human beings. Through it we provide for the self and family, but also, unknowingly, shape our society and our future as we do it. While it can be a joy or a burden, at best it is an intimate conversation between what you perceive to be your identity and who you really are. Through the insights of great poets and their poetry this should be a time to re-imagine and re-dedicate ourselves to a deeper understanding of our life’s work.
The Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards have been one of the highest honors given to individuals, businesses, and organizations in the arts in Utah since 1980. Tickets and further information is available at arts.utah.gov or by calling Jen Parsons-Soran at 801.236.7542.
