5th Anniversary Celebration at HMQS 2008, May 8 – 10th

As part of the 5th anniversary celebration of the Home Machine Quilting Show (HMQS), the world-famous “Supper” quilt will be on special exhibit, sponsored by Gammill® Quilting Systems, May 8 – 10, 2008 at the South Towne Exposition Center, 9575 So. State St., in Sandy (a suburb of Salt Lake City), Utah. “The Supper,” a quilted reproduction of Leonardo daVinci’s famous painting entitled “The Last Supper,” has been displayed at churches and quilt shows across the nation and the world, even as far away as Spain“The Supper,” with dimensions of 15.3 feet wide and 5.5 feet tall, vivid in color and exquisite in craftsmanship, has left its viewers in awe wherever it has been displayed.

The Home Machine Quilting Show is the premier consumer exhibition and hands-on educational show for machine quilters and embroiderers.  HMQS features over 100 classes on a variety of quilting topics, a judged quilt competition with over $15,000 in cash awards and prizes, a Vendor’s Mall of 150 exhibitor booths, free demonstrations, grand prizes and a quilt display of over 250 quilts.  New this year, the 2008 show will offer classes and demonstrations on machine embroidery, as well as machine quilting.

In addition to the special display of “The Supper,” the 2008 show will include other special presentations and featured artists as part of the 5th anniversary celebration.  For example, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a 1 ½-hour presentation entitled, “Machine Quilting Techniques for Award-Winning Quilts,” sponsored by Bernina International.  The presentation will include ideas and demonstration of techniques, along with a slide show of award-winning quilts.

The HMQS 2008 show theme will be “Heirlooms – Wrapped Up in Our Quilted Past.”  The Theme Quilt Challenge & Auction, sponsored by Quilting Treasures, will feature the new fall 2007 fabric collection, “Parisian Paisley,” by Marie Osmond.  Machine-quilting guilds from all over the Rocky Mountain West will create quilts using the fabric collection for display at the show.  The quilts will be judged, $1,000 in cash awards will be given out to the winners, and the quilts will then be silent auctioned off.

One hundred percent of the auction proceeds will go to benefit the official show charity – the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN).  CMN, a non-profit organization founded in 1983 by Marie Osmond’s family, is headquartered in Salt Lake City.  The foundation has 170 hospitals across North America specifically designed to help children.  Each year, over 17 million children are treated for every type of disease and injury imaginable at Children's Miracle Network hospitals.  All proceeds raised at HMQS will go directly to Primary Children’s Hospital (the CMN Hospital in Utah).

Continuing in the spirit of helping children, Meander Publishing, publisher of several well-known machine-quilting magazines, will sponsor a special quilted postcard display at HMQS 2008.  The “Cards for Kids” display will be a unique addition to the show, and will be veritable “eye candy” for the attendees!  The postcards will be for sale on-site for $25 each, with 100% of the proceeds going to the show charity.

Major sponsors of HMQS include the Home Machine Quilting Association, Nuttall’s Fabric Centers, Creative Sewing Centers, MediaOne of Utah, Handi Quilter Company, Rocky Mountain Electric Quilters, TinLizzie 18, Gammill Quilting Systems, Meander Publishing,  American & Efird, Golden Threads, A-1 Quilting Machines, Husqvarna VIKING, APQS Quilting Machines, Daines Sewing Machines, Quiltsmart and Quilting Treasures.
